The Wheel of Time, a series of fantasy novels from the late author Robert Jordan, will be adapted for television, this according to Jordan”s widow Harriet McDougal.
In a post on Google+, McDougal wrote, “The Wheel of Time will become a cutting edge TV series! I couldn”t be more pleased. Look for the official announcement coming soon from a major studio.”
The book collection, which has sold more than 80 million copies, features 14 novels as well as a prequel. The first book, The Eye of the World, was published in 1990. The last, A Memory of Light, was released in 2013 and was co-written by Brandon Sanderson. Jordan died in 2007.
This is not the first time there”s been an attempt to bring The Wheel of Time to TV. In February 2015, FXX aired Winter Dragon, a pilot based on the books. But McDougal claimed it was done without cooperation from the estate, prompting her to issue a statement that she was “dumbfounded by this occurrence, and am taking steps to prevent its reoccurrence.” A subsequent lawsuit filed by producers against McDougal for slander and breach of contract was withdrawn in July 2015.
