Today is probably going to suck if you’re planning on grabbing a flight. It’s one of the biggest travel days of the year, and Winter Storm Boreanaz, er, Boreas promises to make life miserable. So why not find out how miserable everyone else is, with the Misery Map?
Launched by FlightAware, a live flight tracking app that’s actually pretty useful, the Misery Map is more than just a laugh. Bring it up and it will pop up airports across the nation. Each airport has a simple pie chart; the more red in the chart, the more flights have been delayed. If you’re waiting on relatives, or curious as to what the airport will be like when you get there, it’s a good spot check.
Also useful is, if you hover over an airport, you’ll see its major US routes, and each one will be color coded; the more red the route is, the more delayed the flight. The bottom of the site even has a graph displaying delays and general misery over time. It’ll even overlay weather patterns on the map for you.
OK, so perhaps visiting the pain of others is of little comfort when you’re the one stuck in line at the ticket counter, between Man Who Eats Nothing But Raw Garlic and Child Who Will Not Stop Screaming. But if you need quick flight tracking out of major airports, or want to see what it’s like at your connection, this will be a useful link to have.
