Daniel Radcliffe wants to be a real boy.
The “Harry Potter” star is reportedly interested in joining the new version of “Pinocchio” being developed by director-producer Guillermo Del Toro (“Hellboy,” “Pacific Rim”) and the Jim Henson Company.
The actor would provide a voice (presumably as Pinocchio himself) for the 3D stop-motion film based on the beloved fairy tale in which a wooden marionette endures all sorts of bizzare happenings on his way to having his one wish of becoming a real boy granted.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Del Toro revealed that Radcliffe had contacted him in order “get involved in the project.”
Previously, Del Toro indicated that singer-actor Tom Waits and “Hunger Games” co-star Donald Sutherland were both on a shortlist of names he’d want to appear in the film. Del Toro also expressed interest in Christopher Walken.
Del Toro hopes to have the film, which he’s co-directing with Mark Gustafson, ready for theaters by 2014.
Meanwhile, because there needs to be two version of every fairy tale these days, Tim Burton and Robert Downey Jr. are planning to collaborate on a live-action version of the oft-filmed “Pinocchio.”
Since the “Harry Potter” cycle finished, Radcliffe has been busy expanding his repertoire. He starred in the low-budget horror hit “The Woman in Black” earlier this year, and will soon be seen as a young Allen Ginsberg in “Kill Your Darlings.”
Del Toro recently executive produced “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark.” His next film as a director, “Pacific Rim” starring Charlie Hunnam and Idris Elba, hits theaters July 12, 2013.
