On Friday, President-Elect Donald Trump announced that he is adding several members to his transition team executive committee. This news arrives after an announcement that Vice President-Elect Mike Pence is replacing Chris Christie as the team’s chair.
Trump’s ascension to the White House came as a bit of a surprise, but his transition team is anything but a shock. The committee includes loyalists, family members, members of Congress, and a few controversial figures. NBC News’s Frank Thorp V initially reported on the list of people that will be helping Trump with NPR filling in some blanks of some usual suspects and a surprise or two.
Some of the more interesting additions to the team are The Donald’s eldest children — Donald Jr., Ivanka and Eric — who have helped their pop in the past. And he is keeping it in the family as Ivanka’s husband Jared Kushner (who was involved in a lot of high-powered, behind-the-scene campaign decisions) is also joining the team. Poor Tiffany Trump, let out of the fun yet again.
But the list is not devoid of controversial figures, as Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi is also on the list. Bondi garnered her 15 minutes of fame this election season after it was reported Trump made a donation to Bondi after she reportedly dropped a fraud investigation against Trump University in the state. And Nick Denton’s sworn enemy, Peter Thiel, was also announced as a member of the committee. As Inauguration Day inches closer, the country will get a better look at how a Trump White House will shape out, but the current motley crew he has assembled promises more news to come.
