In the ever growing Marvel universe, the fate of the Inhumans was becoming increasingly unclear. While an Inhumans film was originally planned for Marvel’s Phase 4, it was pulled from the official line up, leaving its future uncertain. However, earlier this month Marvel head Kevin Feige swore up and down that they were still devoted to telling these stories, whether it was on the big screen or small.
I think Inhumans will happen for sure. I don’t know when. I think it’s happening on television. And I think as we get into Phase 4 as I’ve always said, it could happen as a movie. I think it would be super cool.
Turns out, Feige was giving more away than we had thought. On Monday night, Marvel announced that Inhumans would officially be a television series on ABC, home of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the dearly departed Agent Carter, but with a twist. The show will hit ABC’s fall schedule, but the first two episodes will be filmed in IMAX and available in movie theaters ahead of the official release in September 2017. According to Ben Sherwood, co-chairman, Disney Media Networks and president, DisneyABC Television Group, they’re pretty psyched about the IMAX event.
“This unprecedented alliance represents a bold, innovative approach to launching great TV content for a worldwide audience. It highlights DisneyABC’s unrelenting commitment to finding new and creative ways to showcasing our very best programming and increasing global engagement and reach.”
Because Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. already touched on the Inhumans storyline, it will be interesting to see where this show fits into the greater Marvel fabric. Regardless, there’ll be another piece of the puzzle that you’ll have to keep up with if you want to stay abreast of the goings on in the MCU.
