If you caught Saturday’s historic UFC 205 card at Madison Square Garden, you also caught the sight of Yoel Romero decimating former middleweight champ Chris Weidman. We imagine Weidman might be beating himself up over the loss, but that’s the only person allowed to beat up the admitted garbage can defiler in the Empire State until 2017.
According to MMA Fighting, the New York State Athletic Commission has determined that Weidman will be medically suspended for 60 days before he can seek NYSAC clearance to fight once more. He’s not the only competitor that the commission has elected to shelve for an extended stretch. Belal Muhammad and Rafael Natal have also received 60 day medical suspensions, while Vicente Luque (who won his bout with a 1st round KO) is on indefinite suspension.
NYSAC medical suspensions were also served up to other notable members of the UFC roster. Strawweight titleholder Joanna Jędrzejczyk and fellow Polish fighter Karolina Kowalkiewicz are both on the shelf for 30 days after their war at MSG. Same goes for the likes of Eddie Alvarez, Stephen Thompson, Liz Carmouche, Michael Johnson, Jim Miller and the freshly retired Meisha Tate.
Returning to the subject of Weidman, fans can at least sleep comfortably knowing Bas Rutten gave the fighter’s guest spot on Kevin Can Wait a sparkling review.
