Disney Is Planning Multiple ‘Star Wars’ TV Shows For Their Streaming Service

Along with the news that a new series of Star Wars movies would be helmed by Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss was the announcement of multiple series that would be heading to Disney’s streaming service. All of this next to the stand-alone Star Wars Stories that come out bi-annually and Rian Johnson’s Skywalker-less trilogy. A lot of Star Wars is on the two-sunned horizon.

Here’s what Disney CEO Bob Iger told investors during an earnings call:

“We are developing not just one, but a few Star Wars series specifically for the Disney direct-to-consumer app. We’ve mentioned that and we are close to being able to reveal at least one of the entities that is developing that for us. Because the deal isn’t completely closed, we can’t be specific about that. I think you’ll find the level of talent on the television front will be rather significant as well.”

Within the next month, Disney XD will be saying goodbye to Star Wars Rebels after four solid seasons, so hopefully, one of the new shows will be helmed by Dave Filoni, the man behind Rebels and the Clone Wars animated series. They’ve ranked among some of the best Star Wars anyone can get anywhere, and they’re still official canon.

We do know that Iger announced a live-action TV series months ago, but since multiple shows are in the work, perhaps there will be one live, one animated?
