At the beginning of the year The Hairpin made the discovery that stock photos really like depicting “Women Laughing Alone with Salad.” It was one of those observations that quickly went viral because it’s something you would never have a conscious thought about but when it’s brought to your attention you’re all like, “Women. Be. Laughing. Alone. With. Salads.”
Well, a mere ten months later either The Hairpin has dug further into their hard-hitting research on women being depicted as mildly retarded in stock photos and found that women in stock photos also have a tough time getting their lips around a bottle of water. It’s actually fairly unreal how much they suck at it.
The surplus of water stock photos actually make a bit more sense than the salad ones. You know, because of the imagery and how the male mind works (see: your thoughts right now). But for some reason I like to imagine the CEO of Stock Photo Corp sitting in his top floor office brainstorming for new stock photo ideas and fixating on how much he hates his wife. “God, she is always laughing at salad.” Or, “Man, she sucks at drinking water.” And so forth.
Regardless the motivation, I think we can all agree we need to get the stockers on this one ASAP.
