Warner has announced a delay to their untitled Batman versus Superman movie. It will now open May 6th, 2016, which is the same day an unnamed Marvel tentpole will open and one week before X-Men: Apocalypse arrives. This is going to be a bloodbath. Disney, Warner, and Fox executives should duke this out like the rival news teams in Anchorman. Fox would be Steve Carell’s character in this scenario. Dumb as hell, but they’ll straight up murder you with a trident.
A Warner executive told The Wrap this ten month delay will “allow the filmmakers time to realize fully their vision, given the complex visual nature of the story.” I hope fully realizing their vision involves Zack Snyder putting more Jesus comparisons and penis-shaped ships into it.
We can’t help thinking this lends more credence to the rumors about Warner filming the Batman versus Superman movie and a Justice League movie back to back. Taking more time to prepare would make sense, if that were the case.
This news also dropped just a few hours after Batman-News reported Ben Affleck had injured his ribs in a skiing accident around Christmastime and wouldn’t be able to start filming until March at the earliest. Warner was going to start filming Batman versus Superman next month, but has delayed the start to the second quarter of this year. A Warner executive nonetheless denied the rumor of Affleck’s injury, telling Deadline, “We just want to do it right and need the time.”
More than ever, this picture from our Batfleck parodies roundup seems relevant.
