Just recently, The Dark Tower producer Brian Grazer said they had shaved $45 million out of the first movie’s budget to help it get made after Universal dropped the project over cost concerns. It was originally planned as a trilogy of movies with two seasons of a limited-run TV series to bridge each film. Now Brian Grazer is claiming the series will be handled by HBO, which is awesome news. In the video below he tells MTV:
“We’re going to do [‘The Dark Tower’] with HBO,” Grazer told us. “We’ll do the TV with HBO, and we’ll do the movie with… to be determined. We’ll do it right.” Grazer, who believes that the previously attached Javier Bardem will still be on board as Roland Deschain, added that “Dark Tower” is going to be able to move ahead largely because he and [Ron] Howard have managed to reduce the film’s substantial budget.
Can you imagine Game of Thrones and The Dark Tower airing back-to-back on HBO? I’d send an anonymous fruit basket to my neighbors to thank them for not noticing I steal their cable.
