Can’t wait until 2016 for the further adventures of Michael Fassbot in Prometheus 2? Well, apparently Ridley Scott is going to try and fit in another sci-fi movie before then.
The Martian, which will star Matt Damon and be produced by Hollywood blockbuster generating robot Simon Kinberg, will begin filming this fall for a 2015 release. For those keeping track, Ridley Scott is keeping exceptionally busy for a 76-year-old guy — he filmed Biblical epic Exodus: Gods and Kings starring Christian Bale last fall, will, supposedly, be doing The Martian this fall, and then will move right on to Prometheus 2 next fall. I have a strong premonition that schedule won’t hold up and that we probably won’t be seeing Prometheus 2 until 2017 or 2018.
The Martian, based on the recent book by Andy Weir, is a wilderness survival story that just happens to be set on Mars. Basically it’s Gravity meets Cast Away, which sounds like a fairly promising premise. Will Ridley Scott be able to resist adding Alien facehuggers and a wacky computer sidekick played by Russell Crowe into the mix? I hope so, but come on, let’s be realistic here.
