Lady, a senior black lab living in a Kansas animal shelter, is proof that the third time’s the charm when it comes to striking it rich. After her original owner passed away, Lady was sent to the shelter in the hopes that her friendly, calm demeanor would attract a permanent home. After being adopted and then returned by not one, but two families, things weren’t looking good for the sweet canine.

Lady’s first trial family sent her back because they were afraid she wasn’t getting along with the dog they already owned but the lab loved her living situation so much that when she was adopted again, Lady escaped and trekked over 30 miles to return to her first owners.

Sadly, after her long journey, both families rejected the dog and sent her back to the shelter, which is when Lady’s luck finally turned around. Helen Rich, a woman living in Florida, heard of Lady’s story through, what else, Facebook and decided to give her a forever home by chartering a private plane to fly the dog down to her 120 acre farm in Odessa. Oh, did I forget to mention how insanely rich Lady’s new owner is? Let me do that now. The animal lover also happens to be an heiress to the Wrigley’s gum company, and at her new home, Lady will join over 300 other animals rescued by the heiress.

It’s a real life Homeward Bound story with an even happier ending.
