New Cubs manager Joe Maddon held an introductory press conference at The Cubby Bear bar in Chicago on Monday. At the end, he offered to buy a round for everyone in attendance.
“Oh yeah, one more thing. Where’s the bartender? Barkeep? Anywhere? I got the drinks right now. Theo said I got one round. No actually, I had thought about that. One round on me, please. That’s a shot and a beer, that’s the Hazleton way. Shot and a beer.”
The Hazleton way, huh? As in Joe’s home town of Hazleton, Pennsylvania? I would imagine in Hazleton a shot and a beer is under $5.
Let this be lesson #1 in Joe’s young Cubs career. Buying a round for the whole bar at The Cubby Bear in Chicago is going to be a much bigger bill than buying a round for the whole bar at a tavern in Weasletown Hazleton.
