Kids today, with their Interstellars and their Ender’s Games, don’t know how good they’ve got it. Children of the 80s and even 90s grew up with some pretty awful science fiction films, and that’s why Hollywood is so willing to reboot every film that has been made in the last 30 years, because we can’t stop talking about how laughably bad some of them were. But one movie that is almost never mentioned in all the rumors is a little gem from 1984 entitled The Last Starfighter.
It starred Lance Guest as Alex, a teenager who looked like he was 35 and loved playing the video game Starfighter, and eventually finds himself smack dab in the middle of a war between the planet Rylos and Ko-Dan Empire. Now, YouTuber Tim Gonzales has given The Last Starfighter a new, “modern trailer,” and there’s nothing over-the-top or super epic about it, but just watching it makes me want to dream-cast a remake and then build a blanket fort and watch the original. It’s one of the best movies ever made, you guys.
