Is there some sort of secret competition between churches to see who can choose the tastiest spot to hold their Sunday morning sermons? If so, that group that wanted to build a McDonald’s in a church is totally losing. An Alabama church is planning to hold special services at its local Buffalo Wild Wings in order to attract a wider audience. Rev. Wesley Savage said the new locale is an effort to reach people who might not feel comfortable attending sermons given at their regular meeting place, Riverchase United Methodist Church:
We believe there’s a population that would attend a service there that wouldn’t go to a church. We hope it’s going to be a more inviting atmosphere. We want it to be a dialogue, questions and discussion about a topic: Why God? Why the church? Why the Bible? Why should I care about these things?
Honestly, it’s some pretty sound logic. I mean, what’s more holy than football and hot wings? Apparently, Riverchase churchgoers think so too. The group partnered with the restaurant so new members (who already frequent the sports bar) can have service before business officially opens, and then of course, stay to cheer on their favorite sports team and knock back a few rounds of beer.
