So this sea lion walks into a bar … much to customers' surprise http://t.co/co7KYeUyIn pic.twitter.com/SgQiueMF4L

The late morning of Tuesday, May 12 was like any other at the Beach Ball bar in Newport Beach, California. Day-drinking retirees were busily proving their namesake, and surfer dude bros and dudettes were hitting on the former crowd for free drinks. Meanwhile, others were using extra chairs to prevent a baby sea lion from entering the premises.
No, seriously. As The Daily Pilot reports, the squinty-eyed little bugger pictured above had waddled into the bar’s entryway from the beach:
Beach Ball patrons blocked the entrance with chairs to keep him out while they waited for employees of the mammal center to pick him up.
“They didn’t want him to wander in and bite anyone,” [Todd] Garbella said.
Before he was rescued, customers named the pup Beach Ball in homage to the bar.
The little guy didn’t actually bite anyone, but as you can see in the photo, his left eye was swollen shut. So the staff called the relevant authorities to come and take the sea lion to be treated.
Despite his visible troubles, however, the bar refused to serve the floundering customer a drink. As Garbella told The Daily Pilot, “We card everyone — even sea lions.” Just another example of government bureaucracy in action, folks.
