During a Democratic fundraiser in New York on Monday, President Barack Obama delivered something akin to a standup comedy routine against the Republican presidential candidates and their recent debate performances. Particularly, he made fun of their angry response to last week’s CNBC GOP debate:
“Have you noticed that every one of these candidates say, ‘Obama’s weak, Putin’s kicking sand in his face. When I talk to Putin, he’s going to straighten out…just lookin’ at him!’ ”
“And then it turns out, they can’t handle a bunch of CNBC moderators at a debate…
“I mean, let me tell ya — if you can’t handle those guys, I don’t think the Chinese and the Russians are going to be too worried about you,” he adds, to more laughter.
NBC News reports that the Republican National Committee canceled the next debate, hosted by NBC and Telemundo, over complaints that the CNBC questions were unfair to them. The Republican candidates are also meeting to agree on new rules for the remaining debates, crafting a letter and questionnaire to vet the potential debates.
