Today we have a first look at A Million Ways To Die in the West from Universal, a western directed by Seth MacFarlane, in which he also stars. It looks to be quite a departure for MacFarlane, as it doesn’t appear to star any talking animals and no one’s singing. In addition to Charlize Theron, Neil Patrick Harris, and Amanda Seyfried (pictured), it’s also said to star Sarah Silverman, Giovanni Ribisi, and Liam Neeson.

After a cowardly sheep farmer backs out of a gunfight, his fickle girlfriend leaves him for another man.  When a mysterious and beautiful woman rides into town, she helps him find his courage and they begin to fall in love.  But when her husband, a notorious outlaw, arrives seeking revenge, the farmer must put his newfound courage to the test. I haven’t watched Family Guy in years, so for a long time I was able to maintain a fairly positive image of Seth MacFarlane. He was just a nice, funny dude who’d occasionally show up on some podcast I listen to. Then I caught five minutes of Ted on cable, where the Seth MacFarlane-voiced teddy bear does an impression of the Seth MacFarlane-voiced dog from Family Guy and I thought my brain was melting. And yet he does nothing but make tons of money. It’s like Seth MacFarlane has cracked the code to the comedy Matrix. I don’t envy him for that. If I ever knew the building blocks of what makes idiots laugh I think I’d be begging to take the blue pill.

And yet, I’m still intrigued by the idea of Liam Neeson doing comedy.
