Spider-Man 3 was largely panned because it featured Kirsten Dunst singing and crammed three villains into one film. And not only did it try to pull off three villains, but it did so at the expense of Venom, one of the most beloved badass comic book villains of all-time. So while Columbia Pictures rushed the rebooted series for last year’s The Amazing Spider-Man to avoid having it revert back to Marvel Studios and therefore to The Avengers franchise, fans hoped that director Marc Webb and Co. wouldn’t make the same mistakes. Bad news, folks.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 already has two villains in Paul Giamatti’s Rhino and Jamie Foxx’s Electro. There was also that teaser photo that led many of us to believe that Venom may be involved, and while that would be awesome, this film doesn’t need three villains. Too bad, though, because there might be a third villain now and it’s Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn.
The character of Osborn is pivotal in the franchise because he is the alter ego of the Green Goblin, which was played by Willem Dafoe in the original Spider-Man trilogy. It is unclear whether Cooper will make his villainous turn in this film or in a sequel. Osborn starts out as a mentor to the superhero before turning bad. (Via THR)
Okay, I’m probably jumping the gun. It would make sense and possibly work for Cooper to play Peter Parker’s mentor in the sequel and then turn against him for The Amazing Spider-Man 3. That way, Osborn could help Spidey thwart Rhino and Electro before unleashing Venom.
Heck, maybe Osborn gets killed in the beginning of The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and the film can just focus on Spider-Man vs. Venom. Or maybe Carnage shows up, too, and the three of them wreak havoc as they battle across New York City. How does that sound to you, Emma Stone?
I know, right? And then maybe after we could make out?
Damn it.
