While most other modern shooters are blasting off to the future, EA’s Battlefield 1 is venturing back a century to World War I. It’s an era not often explored by video games, and it looks like developer DICE is really looking to get all the period details right.
The Battlefield series has always focused heavily on vehicular combat, and Battlefield 1 will have all manner of WWI-era tanks and warplanes for players to wreak havoc with. The tanks look plenty destructive, but the real highlight is the wide range of aircraft. Biplanes, triplanes, two-seaters and bombers – Battlefield 1 will have ’em all, and the developers have taken care to make sure their controls feel unique and authentic. You can check out all the vehicular mayhem in the video at the top of this post. It’s packed with new, in-game footage, so it’s definitely worth a look.
While we’re at it, here’s a look at some of the period-appropriate weapons in Battlefield 1…
Well, dang. DICE have always been wizards when it comes to visuals, but it looks like they’re really going above-and-beyond with Battlefield 1. Making World War I beautiful is no easy task, but DICE has done it.
Battlefield 1 is set to charge into stores on October 21.
