The massive fan backlash against Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is honestly a little hard to comprehend. The game’s debut trailer is the most hated YouTube video in history, with a whopping 3 million dislikes — more than triple the amount of the Ghostbusters trailer that nearly tore society apart. Despite the backlash, Infinite Warfare looks fairly promising. The space battles seem edge-of-your-seat crazy, and I’m actually intrigued by the game’s story concerning space colonies at war. Infinite Warfare is certainly trying more new things than the most recent Call of Duty titles.
Well, Activision has now released over 13 minutes of gameplay footage from Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare‘s opening mission, and it only reinforces my generally positive opinion. The mission is basically a Call of Duty-style take on the classic invasion of Earth-from-outer-space scenario. Of course it’s as loud and intense as Call of Duty always is, but the mission is also more atmospheric than you’d expect. Plus, after the ground action, we get a snippet of explosive space combat action that looks as good as anything from the new Independence Day movie. Again, what’s the huge complaint here?
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare invades shelves on Nov. 4.
