The Next ‘Call Of Duty’ Title Has Leaked, And It May Be Heading Into Outer Space

Eager to know what might be in store for this year’s Call of Duty installment? Well, Sony may have just let a fairly big cat out of the bag. Earlier today, fans on Reddit reported seeing a game called Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare listed in the PlayStation Store. Kotaku and other outlets have confirmed the listing is legit.

It’s only a name, but it does confirm some things, and scuttle a previous rumor. A couple of months ago, word went around that Call of Duty: Ghosts 2 would be the next entry the series. The first Call of Duty: Ghosts, which went heavy on the espionage and intrigue, was supposed to be a fresh start for Infinity Ward, the company that turned Call of Duty into a money-making machine with the first Modern Warfare. This newly leaked title seems to point to Infinity Ward going back to their bread and butter instead.

Although maybe not entirely, based on another leak making the rounds. According to Eurogamer, the next Call of Duty will be set in a more far-flung future, and feature a healthy amount of space combat. Interestingly, Call of Duty: Ghosts kicked off with a sequence set in space. Could Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare be a melding of sorts between the Ghosts and Modern Warfare sub-series?

I wouldn’t expect a confirmation of any of this stuff from Activision until closer to this year’s E3, which kicks off on June 13, but who knows? Activision tends to march to the beat of its own drum when it comes to revealing things.

What do you think about the various Call of Duty leaks and rumors? Are they pointing to something appealing, or do you want something different from the Call of Duty franchise?
