Unlike a lot of recent shooters, the new Doom is going to ship with a healthy amount of content, including a full single-player mode and a meaty multiplayer experience. Rather than forcing players to wait for DLC, Doom will come with a solid six multiplayer modes and nine maps, and we’ve got some new trailers that show them off.
First up, we have the modes trailer, which you can check out above. In addition to basics like Team Deathmatch, the game also has more unique modes like Soul Harvest (you have to collect the souls dropped by players after you kill them), Freeze Tag (freeze enemies then bounce them around like hockey pucks) and Warpath (a king of the hill variant where the capture area is constantly moving). Of course, in almost all of Doom‘s multiplayer modes, you can transform into one of the game’s monstrous demons by picking up a special rune.
Meanwhile, you can check out all the game’s maps in the trailer below. Highlights include the toxic waste-filled Disposal, the “ripped from an Alien movie” Helix and the very demonic-looking Infernal.
I’m not a huge shooter guy, but I really liked the “updated old-school” approach Bethesda took with Wolfenstein: The New Order, and this new Doom is giving me a similar feel. Doom‘s multiplayer mode certainly looks like simple, devilish good fun.
Doom unleashes hell on earth on May 13.
