Sony is promising to deliver a new update for the PlayStation 4 soon and it sounds like it’s going to be a fairly major one. The main feature being added with system software update 3.50 is the ability to stream your games via remote play to your PC or Mac, allowing your to enjoy your PS4 games on the go. The Xbox One has had this feature for a while, although the Xbox doesn’t stream to Macs for obvious reasons.
Other features in this update include:
– Dailymotion will be added to the list of video services you can livestream gaming footage to.
– An incognito mode, which allows you to play single-player games or watch movies/TV without your friends list knowing you’re online.
– A variety of other friend management and social features.
In somewhat related news, it seems Sony is also phasing out the PlayStation TV, as they’ve already stopped selling it in Japan and North America is sure to follow. The PlayStation TV was far from a rousing success (most people barely knows it exists), but its main two features were the ability to play PS Vita games on your TV, and stream PS4 games to any screen in your house. With the PS Vita all but dead and Sony going the PC/Mac remote play route, the PlayStation TV just doesn’t have a niche any more.
The latest PS4 system software update is currently in beta testing, and Sony promises it will be delivered to the masses “soon.”
