Watch Lara Croft Kill A Whole Lot Of People In This ‘Rise Of The Tomb Raider’ Gameplay Demo

Hey, remember early on in the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot where Lara Croft is reluctant to even kill a deer? Well, those days are well behind us now.

Microsoft brought a new gameplay demo for (timed) Xbox One exclusive Rise of the Tomb Raider to Gamescom and, well, it’s just a tad violent. Lara “Rambo” Croft needs to get through a valley, and she isn’t about to let a camp of militia forces slow her down. She sneaks into the camp through a swamp, and immediately gets to work drowning and f*cking dudes up with a very large, nasty looking knife. Eventually, she just decides “nuts to stealth” and starts machine-gunning everybody in the face.

A lot of people are comparing this new footage to The Last of Us, which isn’t that far off. Of course, The Last of Us was an intentionally bleak, disturbing horror game, in which the main character is portrayed as a broken man beyond redemption. So far, Rise of the Tomb Raider just looks like a disposable adventure game that doesn’t really question why Lara Croft is so gung-ho about mascaraing other human beings. Maybe Rise of the Tomb Raider has character depth we haven’t seen yet.

What do you think of Rise of the Tomb Raider so far? Ready to start stabbing necks, or has Lara strayed too far from her roots?
