Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. series can get pretty frantic (to say the least), but just imagine how mind-boggling the games would be if you could play them in first person with a virtual reality headset. Well, YouTubers SoKrispyMedia imagined just that using real, live-action actors and locations, and the result is pretty intense. It’s almost a little intimidating – watch what you’re doing with that sword, Link! Keep that horrifying pink blob the hell away from me! You can check out the first-person Smash action above.
Those were actually some pretty impressive effects for a YouTube video. Want to know how the SoKrispy guys did it? You can check out a making-of video below…
Of course, VR support for Super Smash Bros. is probably never going to happen, as Nintendo has gone out of their way to distance themselves from the tech. To quote Nintendo of America president, “It’s not fun, and it’s not social. It’s just tech.” First-person Smash Bros. would almost certainly make me vomit explosively within 30 seconds, so maybe Nintendo’s cautious approach is for the best. I mean, I don’t think I could handle a world where I’m even worse at Smash Bros. than I am now
