5 Games You Want Coming Out This Week (August 11h – 17th)

Keeping track video game releases isn’t as easy as it once was — the volume of games released each week is constantly expanding, and they’re spread over a mind-boggling array of platforms (consoles, PC, Mac, handhelds and mobile).

Well, I’m here to make things a little easier on you. Every week I’ll rattle off five games I think you should check out. These articles are not meant to be comprehensive lists of everything coming out that week — think of them as a nice rounded tasting menu. Each week I’ll try to highlight several games from different corners of the gaming landscape (handhelds, consoles, indie, PC, you name it) then finish up with a “Pick of the Week”.

Hit the jump for the five games you’re going to want to check out this week…

This Week’s Indie Game

Charlie Murder (Xbox Live, August 14th)

Hey look, it’s an indie game with a cool, hand-drawn art style, but wait — it’s not a 2D platformer with a high-concept hook? No, Charlie Murder is a brawler with RPG elements in which you take control of a down-and-out punk band who fights zombies. Make sure to get yourself into a 13-year-old frame of mind before you play Charlie Murder and you’ll probably have a pretty bitchin’ time.

This Week’s Grand Strategy Game

Europa Universalis IV (PC, August 13th)

Do you like strategy, but find stuff like the Civilization or Total War series just far too accessible and easy-to-grasp? Well then, the Europa Universalis games are for you! Take control of a European colonial power and try to take over the world, but don’t think you’re going to be doing it with force! Haha, oh no, Europa Universalis games are all about mastering brain crushingly complex trading, diplomatic, political and religious affairs — you won’t know what the hell’s going on half the time, but hey, neither did the people who actually led these countries back in the day. So uh, have fun!

This Week’s DLC

Dishonored: The Brigmore Witches (Xbox 360 & PS3, August 13th)

Here is is — the last major chunk of Dishonored DLC. The Brigmore Witches carries on the story of Daud from The Knife of Dunwall. More Dishonored in which you get to stab witches! Need I say more?

This Week’s Handheld RPG

Mario & Luigi: Dream Team (3DS, August 11th)

Nintendo’s lesser-known Mario RPG series returns this week with Mario & Luigi: Dream Team. This time around Mario is tasked with surviving the inside of Luigi’s resentful, youngest-child issues riddled brain in order to save the Princess yet again. Good luck buddy.

Pick of the Week

DuckTales: Remastered (PC, PS3 & Wii U, August 13th)

The reviews for DuckTales: Remastered are all over the map. Not that the positive and negative reviews disagree on the contents of the game at all — both sides agree that it faithfully recreates both the feel of the original DuckTales NES game and the tone of the DuckTales TV show, it’s just one side thinks that’s a good thing, while the other side things NES games are boring and lame and DuckTales is dumb.

So, if you think classic Capcom NES games are no fun, and DuckTales sucked then don’t buy this game. Also, don’t bother reading anything I write again because we probably won’t see eye-to-eye on much. Everyone else get DuckTales and enjoy it like a regular human being capable of experiencing joy.

The good weeks keep coming (and won’t really stop until the end of the year). Planning to grab any of the above-mentioned games? Any games you’re itching to get your hands on that I failed to mention? Hit the comments and let everyone know.
