‘Doctor Strange’ May Be Tom Hardy, Benedict Cumberbatch, Or Some Hot Chick

Now that Marvel has found their Doctor Strange director in Scott Derrickson (Sinister, The Day The Earth Stood Still remake), it’s time to speculate about who will play the titular medical professional of unusual disposition. We’ve already heard a sadly-too-obvious-to-be-true rumor that Marvel wanted Johnny Depp for the role, but Marvel president Kevin Feige already denied it.

So who are they seeking for the role? Deadline says two actors are on Marvel’s wishlist: Tom Hardy — who will always be Bane to us — and Benedict Cumberbatch, who recently put the kibash on playing that other famous Doctor. Scheduling either of them may be an issue, as they’re both already signed for multiple movies. Meanwhile, Badass Digest says Marvel has been, and maybe still is, interested in recent Oscar-winner Jared Leto. Well, he’s got the “strange” part down, at least.

The script comes from Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, the co-writers of Sahara, Dylan Dog, and the Conan the Barbarian reboot. That’s not entirely reassuring.
