Surprise, surprise — Dr. Brackish Okun from the original Independence Day flick has seemingly awoken from an almost 20-year coma, at least according to this new promo clip for Resurgence released by FOX on Saturday.
You may remember in the first film, Okun was viciously attacked by the aliens in Area 51 and used to telepathically communicate with the President before being tossed to the wayside never to be seen or heard from again. But in this new clip, FOX goes documentary-style to talk about the doctor’s life before the attack, comparing him to scientific geniuses Albert Einstein, Carl Sagan and Steven Hawking, and then it mentions that Okun didn’t die like many viewers may have suspected. Instead, the clip reveals the doctor has been in a coma for two decades.
What role will Okun play in the upcoming film? Time will only tell. Another clip released last month may have spoiled the doctors return for some, but it will be interesting to find out more on how he woke up from his coma and what other secrets may be revealed in the second installment of the alien-themed action flick 20 years after its original premiere.
Independence Day: Resurgence hits theaters this Friday.
