As you may have heard, Batman and Superman area gearing up for a major throwdown this Friday, but Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is far from the first time these two comic-book icons have traded blows. Hell, back in 2013, Warner Bros. released Injustice: Gods Among Us, a fighting game entirely devoted to DC Comics heroes beating each other into bloody submission.
Injustice: Gods Among Us was definitely a strange concoction – it packed in all the goofiness you’d expect of a fighting game from the makers of Mortal Kombat, but it also had one of the most aggressively grim and dark storylines in DC Comics history. In the game, Joker tricks Superman into killing Lois Lane and Superman’s unborn child, so Superman punches a hole through the Joker. He then takes over the world, plots to destroy Gotham and Metropolis, and kills Lex Luthor and Shazam in cold blood — among many other atrocities. Yeah, so the Zack Snyder-verse may be overly dark and self-serious at times, but his movies ain’t got nothing on Injustice: Gods Among Us.
