There is perhaps no series as drenched in the cozy haze of nostalgia quite like the Legend of Zelda series, with the N64 classic Ocarina of Time standing out to most fans as the pinnacle of the series. Without a doubt that game still feels fresh in my memory, everything from the discovery that the Ocarina ran through the entire C Major scale and playing songs on it with friends to how annoying the Water Temple was. We’ve seen scenes from A Link to the Past redone in Unreal Engine 4 already, with astonishing results, but now someone has tackled Gerudo Valley from Ocarina of Time and whoa. Just whoa.
While this faithful recreation of the classic locale from Ocarina of Time is without a doubt higher resolution and packs a lot more polygons into everything, it still remains faithful to the original game in many ways. The YouTuber responsible for the recreation explains that they pulled the map from the 3DS version of the game for reference and then recreated the entirety of the valley from scratch inside of the Unreal Engine 4.
If this doesn’t make you wish that Nintendo would revisit these older, beloved games and give them an overhaul, I’m not sure what will, but don’t hold your breath over it. Nintendo seems happy moving forward and creating new installments in the series, although we did get an updated version of Twilight Princess. So there is that.
