Let’s Speculate Wildly About Bethesda’s Mysterious Teaser

Bethesda is slowly revealing its next game, and whatever it is, it ain’t Fallout.

Basically our one hint so far has been this Vine the company posted:

If you look closely, it’s a rotating coil of barbed wire, a Bach recording on vinyl, and a bunch of documents. And they’ve specifically stated that it’s not a Fallout game, which, of course, requires relentless speculation.

So let’s speculate!

First, this is a major title: Bethesda has previously stated that…

“Parts of our team have also been in pre-production on our next major project, and that game is at the point where it requires the studio’s full attention to make it our biggest and best work yet.”

There seem to be two major candidates in the running for this: A new Wolfenstein game and “Project Zwei”, a survival horror game being developed by Shinji Mikami, the developer who invented survival horror games with Resident Evil and then reinvented them with Resident Evil 4.

Since we’re wildly speculating… yeah, it’s Wolfenstein.

While we haven’t heard anything about Zwei for a while, we don’t even know the game’s setting, or even if it’ll be anything to do with Germany in the first place: Tango Gameworks is a pretty tight ship, and they’re also a self-contained one.

Also, it would make sense that the next Wolfenstein game would be enormous: The last one, released in 2009, had a sandbox structure, and although it didn’t sell as well as it was supposed to, it’s hard to believe they’d give up a viable IP. The fact that Far Cry 3 has shown that vast open-world FPS games can be successful likely is adding fuel to this particular fire.

Of course, Bethesda could just throw us a curveball out of left field, too, but hey, that’s what drawn-out marketing reveals are for.
