Most anybody who has read Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s Preacher will likely cite it as one of the greatest comics of all time. Similarly, its three primary characters (Jesse, Cassidy, and Tulip) are among the most memorable creations to ever grace the pages of the medium. Because of this, perhaps the single greatest concern regarding AMC’s impending television adaptation of the comic aside from, “Will there be violence and swears?” has been whether or not they’d get these beloved characters “right.” AMC set one of those concerns at ease in a big way with their new clip from the show, which introduces us to Ruth Negga’s Tulip O’Hare.
The clip depicts a fight in a moving car plowing through a cornfield, with Tulip warding off her would-be killers with military precision and ruthless brutality. It ends in a definitely-NSFW kill that should set any worries as to whether or not Negga is the right pick for Tulip to rest. Showrunner Sam Catlin previously vowed not to compromise in the transition to the small screen. If this clip is any indication, Catlin’s making good on his word.
Promotion for Preacher has picked up significantly in the next few weeks, likely due to its rapidly-approaching May 22nd premiere. We last got a good look at Cassidy, but what will come next?
