If you’re a die-hard PC gamer holding out hope that you’d eventually get to play Rockstar’s epic Red Dead Redemption on your platform of choice, well… stop doing that. It’s not going to happen. This is according to a former developer for the company who spilled the beans that a PC version of the hit console title was never in the cards in the first place.
During a Twitch live stream this past Sunday, Kris Roberts said that while the game was designed in a PC setting, “I don’t think there was ever an intention to have a PC version of Red Dead Redemption.”
“Obviously in development, we were all PC-based and had it running for win32 clients for the entire development,” he added, “But as far as the licensing for the consoles and stuff, it was pretty much always going to be a Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 title. To the best of my recollection, we never even seriously talked about optimizing it for PC.”
Despite that, there’s nothing to say that Rockstar won’t change their minds and release a PC port of the game if there’s enough demand for it. Chances are more likely, however, that we’ll see a sequel instead. At the moment, the company has yet to make an announcement regarding their current project, although a recent job posting for their Toronto studio stated they were looking for a game designer with “physical and digital prototyping skills to establish the pillars of the asymmetrical cooperative stealth experience.” So, there.
