A ‘Rocketeer’ Reboot Is In The Works, With A Very Different Rocketeer

The Rocketeer was a cult hit for Disney back in 1991, but it never got further than one movie. Rumors of remakes have been going around for years, but nothing has come of them until now. Apparently more than 20 years later, we’ll find out what happened to Cliff and Jenny, and meet a new Rocketeer to boot.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney is working on a half-reboot, half-sequel called The Rocketeers that will pick up six years after the first movie. Cliff Secord, the original Rocketeer, has vanished while fighting the Nazis. Cliff’s rocket technology, though, is still out there, and a young Black female pilot has to built a new rocket pack and stop a scientist from selling the technology to the Soviets.

The script is in the process of being written, and much can change between the writing and the shooting, but the title implies heavily that while Cliff is gone, it’s not for good. Also of interest is who’s behind it: In addition to the usual producing types, Clippers star Blake Griffin and Carolina Panthers center Ryan Kalil are behind the wheel. Just why they’re involved is a good question, but the central mystery will be if Bettie Page finally gets her due. Hopefully we’ll find out sooner rather than later.
