Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will be playing Black Adam in the upcoming Shazam! movie, but unfortunately, that doesn’t necessarily mean we’re going to be seeing the former WWE Champ facing off against Henry Cavill or Ben Affleck. Recently, the president of New Line Cinema said that Shazam! isn’t a Justice League movie, leading many to believe a crossover would never happen.

Well, not so fast. In a recent interview with IGN, The Rock was asked about Black Adam mixing it up with the Justice League, and he seemed pretty positive about the prospects…

“I think so. I think you always want to leave that creatively open, that he could join the Justice League. That’s the fun part of creating this character right now and everybody involved, from the studio, from New Line, to Warner Bros as well, to the writer, our producing partners.”

The Rock saying that New Line and Warner Bros. are working together is definitely telling. Now, if Black Adam were to meet up with the Justice League, would he be a hero or villain?

“You definitely want to engage in his heroic side, but that has to be earned and with the mythology of Black Adam starting off as a slave, because when you start off as a slave, just inherently, there’s things in your DNA that piss you off. And that’s the bottomline, so I think we have to respect and pay homage to the true mythology and then the heroic side will come down the line, but I think it’s important and we all feel it’s important and I believe the fans at IGN feel it’s important to make sure the homage is paid at the beginning because then you have a stranger foundation to stand on, and so he will become an anti-hero, but at first… daddy’s got to go to work.”

In the wake of Sony teaming up with Marvel Studios on Spider-Man, it’s not exactly shocking that Warner Bros. and New Line would change their mind on Shazam! being a standalone thing. If The Rock is available to electrify your cinematic universe, you utilize that sumbitch.
