Some exciting ‘Star Wars” news came out of D23 today.
The anthology films are now known as “Star Wars Stories” (we”re guessing marketing wanted a simpler word), Jurassic World's Colin Trevorrow is set to direct “Star Wars: Episode IX”, an immersive 14-acre theme park experience is in the works in both California and Florida, the runtime for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” was revealed, a new poster released, and we were granted a first look at “Star Wars: Rogue One” – which brings us to our topic for the day.
Lucasfilm/Walt Disney Studios has done a solid job of diversifying the “Star Wars” universe and we”re sure to see that trend continue as things move forward. It's been great to see. There”s certainly room for improvement, though. We”re hoping for far more diversity in these created worlds full stop, but today we want to hone in on the disparity between the number of men and women. It still feels crucial for us to pause to pull out exactly why it is crucial to balance the scales.
A genuine request: Please listen to what we have to say before responding. Please do consider it, because we”re talking about how this impacts/impacted us on a personal level, as well as the cultural implications. It”s a challenge for any of us to step outside of our own perspective and consider another”s, but today I invite each of us to try.
