For someone who had recently injured her hip and found herself spending most of the day sitting in a slightly uncomfortable folding chair Emilia Clarke was in quite a fine mood last Friday. The 28-year-old actress is best known for playing the very serious Daenerys Targaryen (aka “Mother of Dragons”) in “Game of Thrones,” but in person she turned out to be one of the most engaging and energetic actors this reporter has sat down with in years.
Clarke was in the middle of a press tour for “Terminator Genysis” where she finds herself playing another iconic heroine, Sarah Connor. When asked whether she had any trepidation taking on a role that defined Linda Hamilton's career, Clarke says her reaction when offered the part was quite simple, really. “Of course, who wouldn't want to do that?”
She also joked, “I don't like saying no to things. I sound like a complete hussy.”
Again, Ms. Clarke was simply divine and you can enjoy more of her thoughts on the latest installment of the “Terminator” franchise in the video embedded at the top of this post. Trust, if you think Jennifer Lawrence is blunt and a ton of fun wait till you check out Clarke.
As for “GoT,” the season five finale left Daenerys with an injured dragon at her side and surrounded by an unknown Dothraki tribe. With creator George R.R. Martin's sixth installment in the series still unpublished fans have little means to discover or spoil (take your pick) what will happen to Clarke's character next. It's also the first time Clarke is going into a season without having a clue to where the Mother of Dragons will end up next. And considering how many characters meet grisly endings on the HBO series Clarke admits she's slightly “scared.”
“Definitely, definitely because it's completely unknown,” Clark says beaming. “It's exciting.”
