Alicia Keys on composing for the emotional journey of ‘Mister & Pete’

Alicia Keys has been a part of the new film “The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete” for five years, having come to the project well before filming began. She is a composer on the film, but not only that, she serves as an executive producer as well.
“Inevitable Defeat” actually marks Keys’ first time working as a composer on a movie. She told us that “It was definitely a new experience for me,” and that while others may approach scoring a movie in one way, for her, as she put it, “I wanted to make sure that I was approaching it from a place of emotion.” Why? Because the film itself “takes you on such an emotional journey.”
This tale of two kids trying to make their way through the summer in New York City without parental supervision certainly is an emotional journey. It stars Skylan Brooks and Ethan Dizon as Mister and Pete respectively, and Jennifer Hudson appears as Pete’s mother, Gloria.
With the movie, Keys has added composer to her long list of endeavors, and she plans to keep expanding her horizons, to keep trying new things. “I think it’s really important to always try new things and to take yourself out of your comfort zone… really explore and experiment.”
We certainly greatly look forward to seeing what Alicia Keys has in store for us next.
“The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete” arrives in theaters on October 11th.
