“Battlestar Galactica” and “Star Trek” veteran Ronald D. Moore is returning to TV sci-fi, with the upcoming sci-fi series “Outlander.”
Cable network Starz is teaming with Sony Pictures Television to adapt “Outlander” from Diana Gabaldon”s bestselling book series.
The books take place in both the 18th and 20th centuries, with time travel at the center of the plot, which melds sci-fi, historical fiction and romance genres.
Moore and Jim Kohlberg will executive produce, with Tall Ship Productions, Story Mining and Supply Company and Left Bank Productions producing in association with Sony Pictures Television.

Starz has ordered 16 episodes which will start shooting this fall in Scotland.
“Outlander” will premiere sometime in 2014.
