Best and Worst: ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” isn’t perfect?

It's rare that a sequel is better than the original film, but “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” joins “22 Jump Street” in pulling that feat off this summer.

The Matt Reeves directed thriller has a 79 on Metacritic and a 91% on Rotten Tomatoes putting it just behind “How To Train Your Dragon 2” as the best reviewed studio releases of the summer (it's unlikely anyone will surpass indie release “Boyhood's” amazing consensus adoration this year let alone this summer).  That being said, it's not perfect. Some might even say that as good as “Dawn” is it's slightly over-hyped (gasp!).

(Please start breathing again. We don't want you to hyperventilate after that sacrilegious fanboy statement.)

Yes, the HitFix editorial staff are still big fans of “Apes,” but that doesn't mean we didn't have some issues with it.  Now, with that in mind, check out our best and worst of “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” in the embedded story gallery at the bottom of this post.
