‘Blade Runner 2’: Sequel to sci-fi classic adds Robin Wright

Blade Runner fans rejoice. The cast for the long-overdue sequel is taking shape, and it appears that Robin Wright will join the sci-fi film.

Variety is reporting that the Golden Globe-winning actress, who currently stars in the Netflix series House of Cards, will be alongside Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling in the follow up to the 1982 film about a replicant hunter. While Wright”s role and full plot details for Blade Runner 2 are being kept under wraps, it”s been reported that the movie will take place decades after the original concluded.

Blade Runner was far from a box office success. On an estimated budget of $28 million, the film earned just over $32 million. But it was with the advent of VHS and DVD that it developed a sizable cult following. It would earn even more recognition in 1993 when the Library of Congress selected it for the United States National Film Registry for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”

Denis Villeneuve (Sicario) is set to direct Blade Runner 2, which is scheduled for a 2018 release.
