“Superbad” breakout star Christopher Mintz-Plasse will soon be heard as one of the main voices in the animated supernatural film “Paranorman,” but fans may be even more eager to see him opposite Aaron Johnson and Chloe Grace Moretz in the upcoming sequel to the ultra-violent deconstructionist superhero movie “Kick-Ass.”
When HitFix’s Gregory Ellwood sat down with Mintz-Plasse to discuss “Paranorman,” he also got some info on “Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall,” in which the actor will reprise his role as the burgeoning super villain Red Mist.
Commenting on the comic book’s second series by writer Mark Millar, Mintz-Plasse says, “It’s brutal man. And the script takes it to another level too.”
In the original film, Red Mist is an ambivalent bad guy, who never really gets his hands dirty. That will change in “Kick-Ass 2,” says Mintz-Plasse.
“He turns dark,” he reveals. “Mark Millar…loved that I was cast because in my other movies I’m heartfelt and cute, so people seeing me doing really disturbing, messed up things…people aren’t going to expect it and they’ll almost kind of root for me in a way. It’s not like Heath Ledger in “The Dark Knight” where he’s an incredible actor, and you see him and you’re scared of this guy. You’re like, ‘Holy shit this is Christopher Mintz-Plasse shooting someone’s head off! Yeah…I can root for that!.'”
No release date for “Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall” has been set yet.
“Paranorman” opens in 3D on August 17.
