Back in March it was reported that Wonder Woman scribe Jason Fuchs had signed on to write an entirely new take on the Lobo live-action movie for DC/Warner Bros., a development that struck some as convenient timing given that Deadpool — a Marvel character whom Lobo is often compared to — had just become a bona fide box-office sensation.
However you spin it, the fact remains that Lobo has been in development for a number of years now, and hey, here's something interesting: Deadpool director Tim Miller himself was in contention to direct the film in one of its earlier incarnations.
“I met on…Lobo two, three years ago,” said Miller at the press day for the film's upcoming DVD/Blu-ray release (May 10). “They had a script then. So it's not like — and I think they even did a test for it early on. I think it's something that filmmakers and sometimes the studios want to do [R-rated superhero movies]. They just haven't seen that they can actually make money.”
For fans, it's an interesting “What if?” scenario. Could Miller have done the same thing for Lobo that he did for Deadpool? Speculate away…
