It was during the ESPN ESPY Awards, so the idiom is apt: ball's in your court, Macklemore.
During the ceremony last night (July 16), Drake took shots at the Grammy Award winning rapper specifically for winning four Grammys earlier this year.
Drake was host at the sports-themed honors, and performed a new song called “Honorable Mention,” a nod to “the No. 2s” in sports and entertainment. Early in the soulful and comedic jam, a pic of a celebratory Macklemore flashed on the screen. “Real talent doesn't always win championships / like real music doesn't always win Grammys.”
Drake was famously up against Macklemore & Ryan Lewis in rap categories at the 2014 Grammy Awards. The “Thrift Shop” performer took Best Rap Album, Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance; later that night, after the ceremony, Macklemore texted Kendrick Lamar to tell him he felt Lamar was “robbed” of Best Rap Album, and then he Instagrammed his text. It was a move Drake told Rolling Stone “felt cheap.”
Watch the video of the song below; another tune “Side Pieces” with Brian McKnight is also tacked on.
