You may recognize Luke Evans from “Immortals,” “The Raven” or “Clash of the Titans,” but he’ll soon be a household name due to his roles in two big 2013 blockbusters.
First, he’ll be seen as the decidedly English villain in the current release “Fast and Furious 6,” facing down Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Gina Carano, Ludacris, and more.
He’ll then segue into his role as the Bard in the next two films in Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit” saga.
HitFix’s Guy Lodge sat down with Evans to discuss his “Fast 6” character of Owen, who Evans describes as a rich ex-military type who’s very hands-on when it comes to his car and his criminal lifestyle. “He’s got all the assets you want in a 21st century villain,” Evans concludes.
Like many movie baddies, Owen is British. “Somebody must’ve done it brilliantly 50-60 years ago… some British dude must’ve done a brilliant job and that was it,” Evans surmises. “Everybody must’ve thought, ‘bad guys always have to be British.'”
The actor also discusses his real-life driving skills. The Londoner actually didn’t even pass his driver’s test until staying in L.A. forced him to get behind the wheel when he was 29.
