Frank Darabont may be heading to fantasy land for his next feature.
The “Walking Dead” creator is in talks to direct “Snow White and the Huntsman 2,” the followup to the 2012 action-fantasy flick that starred Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron, according to Deadline. The first film was directed by Rupert Sanders and grossed nearly $400 million worldwide (albeit on a steep $170 million budget) despite receiving only mixed reviews from critics.
Interestingly, the film is being discussed as a spinoff as opposed to a direct sequel, with the plot centering on Hemsworth's Huntsman character. There's no word yet as to whether Stewart will reprise the title role, though she did seem excited about the possibility in an interview conducted a few months after the first film's release. Granted, that was more than 18 months ago, and the general thrust of the project appears to have changed considerably since then.
Darabont, whose departure from “The Walking Dead” between Seasons 1 and 2 became the subject of controversy, hasn't directed a feature film since 2007's “The Mist.” His other feature credits include “The Green Mile,” “The Shawshank Redemption” and “The Majestic.”
Do you think Darabont would be a good choice for “Snow White and the Huntsman 2”? Sound off in the comments.
