As we all learned from “Poltergeist,” children's toys can be truly scary things. That is a lesson beautifully reiterated in the new trailer for “Deliver us from Evil.” Just watch it and tell us that whatever that toy is doesn't have the hair on the back of your neck stand up.
This new movie directed by Scott Derrickson and stars Eric Bana, who was most recently seen on the big screen in “Lone Survivor.” Here, Bana is changing genres to horror and taking on the role of NYPD officer Ralph Sarchie. He stars opposite Edgar Ramirez who plays an exorcism-performing priest, Joel McHale, and Olivia Munn.
The trailer doesn't offer up a lot of information about what takes place in the film other than the notion that there is some sort of evil entity out there terrifying Bana and his family. We also can guess that the bad things here are not “the evil that men do,” but rather “something else entirely.” Sarchie may not be a believer in that sort of thing initially, but we'd bet he changes his tune before the credits roll.
If the trailer doesn't offer up a lot of details about the movie's story, what it does do is set the mood wonderfully. This looks to be an exceptionally creepy affair, with a definite “Conjuring” sort of vibe. So, again, give it a glance and tell us if you're excited to see the full movie.
“Deliver us from Evil” opens July 2nd.
