Marvel fans should be happy with the first look of Ultron from ‘The Avengers’ sequel

Behold: Ultron.

The title character of Marvel's “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” has been revealed on the cover of the Entertainment Weekly's new Comic-Con issue, and it sure looks like Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Black Widow, Hawkeye and Hulk will have their hands full with the robotic savior-turned-menace and his minions.

Ultron (played by James Spader via motion capture) is an artificial intelligence who is created by Tony Stark in order to help The Avengers…until something goes wrong. Writer-director Joss Whedon has said that the sequel will alter the character's storyline and some of his abilities from the original Marvel Comics, although Ultron's movie look is pretty faithful to his usual comic book self.

Take a look at the EW cover below, featuring Ultron in between super-pals Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Captain America (Chris Evans):

In other news, it looks like Cap's costume has been changed a bit (again), especially around the star area.

But which other villains will the Avengers face? Josh Brolin will appear (perhaps only briefly) as the previously-glimpsed Thanos, while mo-cap king Andy Serkis has signed on for an unspecified role. Thomas Kretschmann is also reprising his role as the evil Baron Wolfgang von Strucker.

“Ultron” also stars Marvel vets Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Cobie Smulders, Don Cheadle and Samuel L. Jackson, plus newcomers Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

“The Avengers: Age of Ultron” opens May 1, 2015.
