‘Gotham’s’ Jada Pinkett Smith frightens me with a bat and reveals her ‘Buffy’ obsession

When Jada Pinkett Smith approaches you on a red carpet wielding a baseball bat…well, you interview her. Fish Mooney, on the other hand? Run. As fast as you can. And don't look back.

“This is her regulator,” said the strikingly-gorgeous “Gotham” star of the prop she brought to help introduce her character to the Comic-Con audience. “I brought her best friend with her, and you're gonna see what kind of influence the regulator has on some of our most iconic villains in Gotham. Starting with the pilot.”

Great. Intriguing. But here's the most interesting part of the interview: Jada Pinkett Smith loves “Buffy.” As in “Buffy, the Vampire Slayer.” As in, she really loves it.

“There is not one special item from the 'Buffy' series, like all the special axes and stakes, that I have not found traveling all over the country to different comic book stores…that I haven't collected,” said Pinkett Smith. “I have almost every special item there is to have.”

So which two cultural figures influenced her portrayal of the Gotham crime boss, a character created specifically for the Batman prequel series? Watch the full interview embedded above to find out.

“Gotham” premieres Monday, September 22 on FOX.
